Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. Make the Brownie Batter:

  1. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until combined.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips and ¾ cup of the M&Ms, reserving the remaining M&Ms for topping.

3. Bake the Brownies:

  1. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Press the reserved M&Ms into the top of the batter for a colorful finish.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter). Be careful not to overbake to keep the brownies chewy.

4. Cool and Serve:

  1. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares. This helps them set and makes slicing easier.
  2. Serve as-is or warm them slightly in the microwave for an extra gooey treat. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
