Ingredients
For the Ribs:
- 2 racks of baby back ribs (or spare ribs), membrane removed
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup brown sugar
For the BBQ Sauce (Optional Homemade):
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Ribs:
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a large baking sheet or roasting pan with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, black pepper, salt, and brown sugar to create a dry rub.
- Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs.
Cook Low and Slow:
4. Wrap each rack of ribs tightly in aluminum foil, sealing the edges to trap in moisture. Place the wrapped ribs on the prepared baking sheet.
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 2 ½ to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and pulls away from the bone easily.
Make the BBQ Sauce (Optional):
6. While the ribs are cooking, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer over medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Set aside.
Glaze and Broil:
7. Remove the ribs from the oven and increase the oven temperature to broil (high heat). Unwrap the ribs and brush them generously with the BBQ sauce.
8. Place the ribs back in the oven (uncovered) and broil for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce caramelizes and becomes slightly sticky. Watch closely to avoid burning.
Serve and Enjoy:
9. Let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual portions. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro if desired. Pair with coleslaw, cornbread, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
